Some Interview Questions

  1. How to check how many databases are up and running at OS level?
    1. [oracle@pc1 ~] $ ps –ef | grep smon
But this is not the perfect answer because it will show the output even if database is in nomount phase. The correct answer is…
    1. [oracle@pc1 ~] $ ps –ef | grep oracle
This command will list all oracle processes and we need to look for a process with LOCAL=NO option
  1. How to check the status of database at SQL level?
    1. SQL> select * from v$instance;
    2. SQL> select name,open_mode from v$database;
  2. How to check the version & bit version of database?
    1. SQL> select * from v$version; (same is the answer to check edition of database)
  3. How to check how many databases existing on a server?
    1. [oracle@pc1 ~] $ more /etc/oratab

 But this is again not the correct answer as entries for manually created databases will be updated automatically in oratab file.
