Types of Recovery Manager Backups

1.Types of Recovery Manager Backups
The backup_type applies to all backup_specifications in the backup_specification_list. The following two backup types are available:

1.1 FULL
This is the default if neither full nor incremental is specified. A full backup copies all blocks that have never been used. No blocks are skipped when backing up archive logs or control files. A full backup has no effect on subsequent incremental backups, and is not consider to be part of the incremental backup strategy.Backing up full database (Including current control file)

If we have Catalog database we can connect with Catalog otherwise its Optional, we can connect with target only

$rman target sys/sys_pwd@ORCL catalog rman/rman
RMAN> BACKUP DATABASE INCLUDING CURRENT CONTROLFILE;

1.2. Incremental
An Incremental backup at a level greater than 0 copies only those blocks that changed since the last incremental backup. An incremental backup at level 0 is identical in content to a full backup, but the level 0 backup is considered to be part of the incremental strategy. Certain checks are performed when attempting to create an incremental backup at a level greater than zero.

1.3. Incremental Backup sets
An incremental backup is a backup of one or more datafiles that contain only those blocks that have been modified since a previous backup at the same or lower level, unused blocks are not written out.

1.4 Physical Incremental Backups : (On Sunday) Sunday: Take a complete Physical backup

$rman target sys/sys_pwd@acct catalog rman/ramn
RMAN> backup incremental level 0 database;

Monday: Take a Incremental Physical backup

$rman target sys/sys_pwd@acct catalog rman/ramn
